Memories of Childhood and Recipes

Good morning, everyone! How are you today? I can't believe we are already headed towards the middle of November and Thanksgiving is just around the corner (in a little over two weeks).

I remember family holidays from my childhood vividly. My grandmother always had a houseful of family members and friends. She also had delicious pots of something tasty on the stove. I am picturing it now... my grandmother in her housecoat, sometimes with rollers in her hair so her hair would be perfect for church, preparing a huge, lavish meal for her loved ones. Her stove was covered in pots filled with yummy food and her oven was baking away. The table was set with her best plates and friends and family were filing in with their prized dishes in tow.

Hanging over her stove was a plaque that said, "God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot Change, Courage to Change the things I can and Wisdom to know the difference". That exact placque is now hanging in my living room where I can see it from my kitchen. I remember that plaque being up there my entire life and my dad said it was up there for as long as he can remember, too. It's a very old plaque. Who knows, maybe her mother had it hanging up as well? I wish I had remembered to ask her. When she passed away in 2000, I inherited it. I think it's a wonderful little prayer to get me through my days!

Delicious food and family gatherings make memories that can last a lifetime. With that in mind, I am trying to come up with lots of delicious meals for Thanksgiving and Christmas as we gather once again as a family. To that end, I will be trying out several recipes from The Original Country Bob's Cookbook over the next few weeks. I will then come back and report how they turned out along with photos and video. If anyone would like me to try a particular recipe from the cookbook, just let me know.

And, before I go, check out the Christmas Specials at Country Bob's website. These would be a nice gift for an office party, a family member or even yourself.

Have a blessed Tuesday all!

I have always loved that prayer. It's SO true in so many ways. I think it's very cool that you got it from your grandma. Very special.
